Airlines Raise Ticket Prices Up to 30% Across UAE and GCC Ahead of Eid

17 March, 2026 11:22

Travelers across the Gulf region are facing significantly higher airfares as airlines increase fuel surcharges ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr 2026, following a sharp rise in global oil prices.

According to industry reports, ticket prices in the United Arab Emirates and other Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries have surged by up to 30 percent in recent days. The increase is mainly driven by higher jet fuel costs, after global oil prices crossed $100 per barrel last week.

Oil Price Surge Triggers Airline Fare Hikes

The spike in oil prices comes amid escalating tensions involving the US-Israel-Iran conflict and concerns over Iran’s decision to close the strategic shipping route known as the Strait of Hormuz.

This waterway is one of the world’s most critical oil transit routes. Any disruption to shipping in the region has immediate consequences for global energy markets, including aviation fuel prices.

Industry analysts note that jet fuel typically accounts for nearly one-third of an airline’s operating costs, making it one of the biggest financial pressures for carriers.

Airlines Add Fuel Surcharges Before Eid Rush

In response to rising fuel costs, several regional and Asian airlines have introduced or increased fuel surcharges, pushing ticket prices higher just days before the Eid holiday travel rush.

The fare increases are particularly noticeable as millions of expatriates in Gulf countries travel during the Eid-ul-Fitr holiday period to visit family or take vacations.

Routes Expected to See the Highest Price Increases

Aviation experts say premium long-haul routes are experiencing the biggest increases in airfare.

Some of the routes expected to see the steepest fare hikes include:

  • Dubai → London

  • Dubai → New York

  • Dubai → Mumbai

  • Dubai → Riyadh

Travel demand remains strong despite higher prices, especially for flights departing from major hubs like Dubai, where airlines are struggling to balance capacity and rising operational costs.

Flight Operations Continue Despite Regional Tensions

Airports and airlines across the UAE and GCC have resumed limited international operations, though capacity remains affected by regional tensions and higher fuel costs.

Industry observers say ticket prices may remain volatile in the coming weeks if oil prices continue to fluctuate due to geopolitical developments in the Middle East.
