All Business Community Rejects Propaganda Against Pakistan GSP Plus Status

FPCCI, in Collaboration with Ipsos, Launches Pakistan’s First Indigenous “Index of Transparency and Accountability (iTAP)”
KARACHI – The business community in Pakistan has unanimously rejected any propaganda against the country’s GSP Plus status.
Officials from the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) emphasized that the government must defend the GSP Plus status and take strict action against those involved in lobbying against it.
FPCCI officials held a press conference in Karachi to highlight the importance of the GSP Plus status for Pakistan’s economy. They described it as the “lifeline of the economy” and said it holds great significance for boosting national exports.
“Pakistan must come out of the IMF program, and exports are the only way to achieve this,” said FPCCI officials. “Our economy is getting stronger day by day, and increasing exports is inevitable.”
The officials also recalled that the European Union provides Pakistan with GSP Plus export facilities. In 2013, Pakistan’s exports to Europe were $3.5 billion, benefiting from zero percent tariffs. FPCCI Vice President Saqib Fayyaz said, “GSP Plus status was a game changer for Pakistan. Currently, 24 percent of our exports go to European countries, and the textile sector has grown thanks to this facility.”
He added, “No one should be part of propaganda against GSP Plus. We condemn negative statements on social media about this status. Pakistan easily meets all standards required for GSP Plus, but India is actively engaged in trade conspiracies against Pakistan in the EU.”
FPCCI officials warned that losing GSP Plus status could severely damage Pakistan’s exports. “Some groups are spreading negative propaganda, but the government must take this matter seriously and act against lobbying efforts. The business community is fully behind the government to strengthen the economy,” they said.
“Our commitment to Pakistan’s economy is like standing as a steel wall. The government must ensure GSP Plus is protected to secure the country’s export future,” concluded the FPCCI representatives.
