Apple reportedly postpones iPhone 18 launch until 2027
Apple’s standard iPhone 18 may not be launched until 2027, according to a new report. Pegatron, a major Taiwanese company that assembles Apple devices, reportedly discussed changes to its usual smartphone shipment schedule during its second-quarter 2026 earnings call.
Taiwan’s Economic Daily News linked the changes to one of Pegatron’s customers, which is widely believed to be Apple.
According to the report, Apple could launch the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and a foldable iPhone Ultra in September 2026. The standard iPhone 18 may then be released in the first quarter of 2027.
This would be a major change for Apple, which has launched its standard iPhone alongside the Pro and Pro Max models every September since the iPhone 11.
Reports about a split iPhone 18 launch have surfaced several times over the past year. Apple supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo and former The Information reporter Wayne Ma have also reported similar plans.
Another Apple supplier, Largan Precision, reportedly gave hints earlier this year that Apple could change its launch schedule.
If the reports are accurate, Apple could move to a two-stage iPhone launch plan. The company may release three models in September 2026 and three more in early 2027.
The September 2026 lineup could include the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and iPhone Ultra. The iPhone 18, iPhone 18e and second-generation iPhone Air could follow in March 2027.
Apple has not officially confirmed the reported plans. However, Pegatron’s comments have added further support to reports that Apple may change its traditional iPhone launch strategy.
