China Unicom joins hands with Huawei to deploy 5G Advanced line

07 November, 2023 16:05

Beijing : China Unicom and Huawei announced the acquisition of the Baoding automation technology division of Shipin Automobile System Co., Ltd. Began. (“EA”) offers a commercially flexible 5G Advanced production line with ultra-high reliability and ultra-low latency.
Great Wall Motors’ factory in Baoding, Hebei province, is using advanced 5G equipment on its car roof production line. Traditional industrial controls rely on wired networks to achieve serial connectivity and control of end devices.
However, mobile application scenarios such as robotic arms, sliding units, and rotary tables frequently experience production interruptions due to wire wear after a period of operation, resulting in an average of approximately 60 hours of downtime per year. 5G Advanced networks offer extremely high reliability and extremely low latency, making them ideal for high-end core manufacturing processes that require high response speeds.
Wireless industrial networks can completely eliminate cable limitations. Compared to wired networks, 5G Advanced solutions can simplify network deployment and better support flexible manufacturing.
5G Advanced networks also improve efficiency by integrating multiple features, including: B. Data acquisition (IT) and industrial control (OT) functions are delivered over two separate leased lines within the wired network.
EA is headquartered in Baoding City, Hebei Province and is a subsidiary of Great Wall Motor Co., Ltd. (GWM)’s annual sales exceed 2 billion yuan. EA is responsible for the development of smart devices and the design and integration of automated production lines for GWM and other automotive companies.
At the press conference, Yuan Zhanjian, Deputy Director of EA’s Industry Intelligence Department, said: 5G-Advanced is characterized by extremely high reliability, low latency, and easy deployment. These features have been verified in EA’s 5G-Advanced Industrial Internet Lab and will soon support commercial production lines. We will take advantage of the opportunities presented by business transformation and modernization and leverage digital technologies to continuously improve our intelligent manufacturing capabilities, thereby contributing to the transformation and modernization of GWM and the manufacturing industry as a whole. Masu. ”
Many countries are now seeing the digital transformation of industry as a new driver of economic growth. They are therefore striving to make manufacturing increasingly digital, connected and intelligent. Digital operational capabilities are essential to today’s manufacturing organizations, and the importance of flexible and intelligent manufacturing continues to grow.
Fan Jian, senior big data scientist at China Unicom, pointed out that China Unicom is accelerating the construction of digital infrastructure and deepening the integrated innovation of digital technology.
“We are working with all industry partners to build a 5G-powered industrial internet that will help companies meet transformation challenges and ultimately accelerate the transition to smart manufacturing. We are working on it,” Huang said.Compared to wired networks, 5G Advanced solutions enable simpler network deployment and can better support flexible manufacturing.

China Unicom believes that the advanced applications of 5G can create greater value for enterprises. “We look forward to working with all sectors to create new drivers of innovation and promote high-quality development through the integration of the digital and physical economies,” Fan continued. Together, we hope to open a new chapter in China’s modernization journey. ”
The global industry is actively promoting the development of 5G Advanced. At the Global Mobile Broadband Forum, which ended last month, 13 global mobile operators, including China Unicom, jointly launched the first wave of advanced 5G networks, marking the transition of 5G Advanced from technology validation to commercial deployment.
