Cold wave hits Karachi as mercury drops to 14°C

The weather in port city has turned chilly as the mercury dropped to 14°C today.

Earlier on Friday, Karachi had witnessed heavy rainfall coupled with thunderstorms after which a cold wave hit the metropolis.

Several city areas, including II Chundrigar Road, Saddar, Malir, Sarjani Town, North Karachi, Industrial Area, Korangi, Orangi Town, Baldia Town, Manghopir, Northern Bypass, and Sohrab Goth Town had received heavy rainfall.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the winds, currently, are blowing from the northwest at a speed of 16 kilometres per hour.

The weather in the port city would remain dry, cold and cloudy for the next 24 hours, the Met Office predicted. The weather department added that the minimum temperature was recorded at 13°C today.

Meanwhile, the weather department said that the humidity in the air was 28 per cent. The maximum temperature is likely to jump to 24 to 26°C, it predicted.

Earlier, weather expert Jawad Memon hadsaid there was no chance of rain in the city. He added that the westerly waves had departed and the sky would remain clear and dry with cold nights.
