Tourist hub Askole faces power crisis, protest erupts

Tourist hub Askole power crisis protest
Mass protest has been recorded in Askole, the last Pakistani village, a key tourist hub in Shigar Valley famous for its stunning landscapes and proximity to K2, demanding reliable power supply and network connectivity in the region on Tuesday.
The Braldo Youth Organization president (BYO), Muhammad Abbas Askole, said that for the last twenty-five days, they have been deprived of power supply, which affects daily life, education, health, and business in the region.
He said that the alternative way to provide supply is the Hoo (the middle small town in the Braldo region) powerhouse, but due to the negligence of Tastay Power Supply staffers, it was not given despite ensuring speedy provision of electricity.
Additionally, citing the deprivation of electricity, there are no signals causing 4G network in the area.
Furthermore, Askole, as it is supposed to be the tourist capital, Abbas stressed that the department of local government must take notice of the concerning issue and ensure the provision of power supply and communications facilities up to the mark in the region.
Moreover, the locals also highlight their core concerns that affect life due to these issues and expect speedy resolutions from the authorities.
