The trial court has declared the nikah of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi illegal and hand them seven-year imprisonment and imposed fine of RS500,000 each.

Senior Civil Judge Qudratullah announced the verdict today after completing the hearing of the case which lasted for 14 hours on Friday  at the Adiala jail.

The plea was filed by Bushra Bibi’s ex-husband Khawar Maneka.

According to him, the nikah between the former premier and his ex-wife was un-Islamic and illegal.

The verdict comes in the same week the ex-premier was sentenced to 10 years in the cipher case and 14 years in the Toshakhana case.

So far, cross-examination of the statements given by the four witnesses in the case has been completed. The statements of Khan and Bushra under section 342 have also been recorded.

Bushra Bibi was bought to Adiala from Banigala – which is declared as a sub jail – for the final hearing.

The verdict will be announced in the presence of the PTI founder, Bushra Bibi and their lawyers.

The complainant’s counsel Raja Rizwan Abbasi, Khan’s lawyer Salman Akram Raja and Bushra Bibi’s lawyer Usman Gul also gave their final arguments a day earlier.
