General Elections 2024 : date for filing nomination papers with ECP ended

The Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) extended deadline for filing nomination papers for the February 8 general election ended today (Sunday) at 4:30pm.

As per the original schedule, the process to file nomination papers for national and provincial assemblies seats commenced on Dec 20 and was set to end at 4:30pm on Friday. However, ECP announced a two-day extension to sub­mit nomination papers.

The scrutiny of the nomination papers will be from Monday (December 25) through December 30.While appeals against the acceptance or rejection of nomination papers can be submitted until January 3, 2024 with decisions expected by Jan 10.

The ECP is set to release the updated list of candidates on January 11, and candidates can withdraw their papers till Jan 12.The allocation of electoral symbols will take place on January 13, and the general elections are scheduled for February 08.

Meanwhile, the ECP has given more time to foreign observers who want to monitor the general elections. Now, they can submit their applications from December 31, 2023 to January 20, 2024.

Political heavyweights filed nomination

PML N Supremo Nawaz Sharif nomination papers were submitted for the NA-130 (Lahore-XIV) , NA-15 Mansehra constituencies.
PML N Senior VP & chief organiser Maryam Nawaz nomination papers were submitted for (NA-119 and NA-120) constituencies.
Maryam Nawaz also snomination papers were submitted for Punjab Assembly — PP-159, PP-160, PP-165 and PP-80.
PTI founder Imran Khan nomination papers were submitted for NA 89 Mianwali, NA-122 LHR,
PTI Senior Vice President Sher Afzal Marwat nomination papers were submitted for NA-32 Peshawar.
PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari nomination papers were submitted for for NA-194 and NA-196.
JUI-F leader Mufti Kifayatullah nomination papers were submitted for NA-15 Mansehra.
PTI leader Murad Saeed nomination papers were submitted for NA-3 and NA-4 in Swat.
PML-N provincial president Amir Muqam nomination papers were submitted for NA-11 constituency and PK-30 Shangla-III.
PTI leader Shaukat Yousafzai nomination papers were submitted for PK-28, Shangla-I and PK-24, Shangla-II.
PTI local leader known as Baba-e-ShanglaAlhaj Said Fareen nomination papers were submitted for NA-11 constituency while his sons Hanifur Rahman and Gulzar Akhunkhel will contest elections from PK-28, Shangla-I.
PTI leader Alhaj Said Fareen Baba-e-Shangla’s nephew Habibur Rahman Toofan filed papers for PK-30, Shangla-III for the upcoming polls slated for February 8, 2024.
JUI-F Chief Maulana Fa­zlur Rehman, Faisal Karim Kun­di of PPP nomination papers were submitted for NA-44 DIKhan-I.
JUI-F leader Maulana Obaidur Rehman, PPP candidate Sardar Fateh Ullah Khan Miankhel, TLP leader Haider Khan Miankhel and JI leader Muhammad Ejaz Awan nomination papers were submitted for NA-45, DIKhan-II.
Lawyer and activist Jibran Nasir nomination papers were submitted for NA-241 and PS-110 Karachi.
MQM-P Senior Deputy Convenor Mustafa Kamal nomination papers were submitted for NA-242 Karachi.
Awami Muslim League’s Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed nomination papers were submitted for NA-55 , NA-56 constituency Pindi.
