Elements behind wheat import scandal get ‘clean-chit’

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on the recommendations of the inquiry committee gave a clean chit to the important characters involved in the wheat import scandal.

The prime minister approved the recommendations of the inquiry committee in which the suspension of 4 officers of the Federal Ministry of National Food Security has been approved.

Shehbaz approved formal action against former federal secretary National Food Security Muhammad Asif while suspension of former DG Plant Protection AD Abid has been approved.

Suspension of Food Security Commissioner One Dr. Waseem and Director Sohail involved in the wheat scandal was also approved. The responsible officers were charged with poor planning and negligence.

According to sources, the federal government was reluctant to take criminal action against those responsible in the wheat import scandal.

Sources told GTV’s special correspondent that the federal government does not want to take action against former caretaker prime minister Anwarul Haq Kakar and his cabinet.

According to the experts, as a result of NAB or FIA investigation, the former caretaker federal cabinet will have to be included in the wheat import scandal.

The sources said that cabinet members and bureaucrats have suggested to the prime minister to solve the issue of wheat import scandal in a better way. On the other hand, PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif wants strict action against those responsible.

Sources also said that the final decision on whether or not to send the matter to NAB or FIA on the wheat scandal report is expected in the next 24 hours.

It should be noted that the wheat market in the country crashed due to the surplus wheat import.
