October 13: Commonality between Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Musarrat Nazir

Pakistan’s two legendary singers Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Musarrat Nazir have one thing in common that is their birth date.

Nusrat Fateh Ali spent his entire life learning the art of Qawwali and popularizing it in the East and the West. He carried the message of the Sufis to every corner of the world.

Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, the uncrowned king of music, opened his eyes on October 13, 1948 in Faisalabad’s Qawwal family. His father Fateh Ali Khan and uncle Mubarak Ali Khan were famous Qawwals of their time.

At the age of 16, he learned the art of Qawwali. He also sang ghazals, classical and Sufi songs.

Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, a famous musician equally popular in Pakistan and India, has captivated the world with his spiritual music, songs, ghazals and qawwalis during his long career.

Meanwhile, the sparkling actress of Pakistani Silver Screen, Musarrat Nazir is also celebrating her 84^th birthday today.

Musarrat is a Canadian-Pakistani singer and film actress, who acted in many Urdu and Punjabi films.

She also sang solo, mostly wedding and folk songs in her career.

The singers’ parents wanted her to be a doctor and provided her with the best possible education. However, Musarrat had keen interest in music and began singing for Radio Pakistan in the early 1950s.
