14 October, 2024 20:28

Pakistani sufi singer Saif Samejo has opened up on the yesterday’s incident where police ‘manhandled’ Sindh Rawadari March protesters.

In a video shared on his social media pages, Samejo reflected on his own treatment by police and reaffirmed his commitment to the cause.

He said that the protesters’ demands are clear: arrest those responsible for Kunbhar’s killing, ensure a transparent inquiry, and resist extremism’s encroachment in Sindh.

In the post accompanying his video, Samejo wrote, “We gathered for a better society, a better Sindh, a better Pakistan — one free from hatred and suffocation. And we will march again and again. No one can take away this strength and smile.”

Samejo further clarified that he joined the march not for political gain, but for the betterment of society, citing the rise of extremism as a key concern.

He demanded a society where peaceful protest is met with dialogue, not batons. Addressing Bilawal Bhutto, Samejo urged him to follow the legacy of his mother, Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, and to champion the cause of justice and transparency.

Samejo also spoke out against police brutality, urging his “friends in the police” to intervene in their departments to prevent the mishandling of innocent, educated, and politically aware individuals.
