Tom Cruise receives US Navy’s highest civilian honour
World famous American actor Tom Cruise has been awarded the highest civilian award by the US Navy.
The Hollywood actor was honoured with the Department of Navy’s Distinguished Public Service (DPS) award, according to foreign media, in recognition of the Top Gun actor’s enduring service to the US Navy through his iconic film roles.
It should be noted that the DPS Award is the highest honour that can be conferred on a civilian outside the Navy Department.
Presenting Tom Cruise with the award, Secretary of the Navy Carlos Del Toro said, “It is an honor to award Tom Cruise with the Defense Public Service Award for his decades of advocacy for the Navy through many films. The actor’s work has inspired a new generation to serve in our Navy and Marine Corps.
The Top Gun star got emotional receiving the top award, delivering an emotional speech during the ceremony, highlighting the importance of leadership and service.

He said that: “I know one thing in life, which is very true for me that to lead is to serve and I know it from my heart”.
While expressing his gratitude for being honored with the civilian award, Tom Cruise also praised the servicemen and women crew around him for their sacrifices and dedication. “It is an honour to be among you all,” he added.
