Renowned singer Naseebo Lal tortured by her husband
LAHORE — Shahdara Town Police have registered a case against Naveed Hussain, the husband of renowned folk singer Naseebo Lal, following allegations of physical assault and domestic violence, officials confirmed on Thursday.
According to the First Information Report (FIR) lodged by Lal, the incident occurred at their residence when Hussain allegedly attacked her with a brick in the courtyard. “He picked up a nearby brick and struck my face, causing severe injuries to the left side of my face and nose,” the singer stated in her complaint. Medical reports have documented the injuries, though Lal’s current condition remains undisclosed.
The FIR further reveals that Hussain allegedly initiated a verbal altercation immediately upon arriving home, which escalated into physical violence. Lal claimed this was not an isolated incident, citing a history of domestic disputes. “He frequently engages in abusive behavior and arguments,” she noted in her statement.
Senior police officials confirmed that a case has been filed under relevant provisions of the Pakistan Penal Code pertaining to physical assault and harassment. “Investigation is underway, and the accused will be arrested shortly,” a Shahdara Town Police spokesperson stated.
Naseebo Lal, celebrated for her contributions to Punjabi and Sufi folk music, has yet to issue a public statement. The case has reignited conversations about domestic violence in Pakistan, with activists urging swift legal action and protection for survivors.
Authorities emphasize that all charges will be thoroughly investigated, adhering to due process. Under Pakistani law, domestic violence cases are prosecutable offenses, with penalties including imprisonment and fines.
