Amitabh Bachchan becomes highest tax-paying Indian celebrity

Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan has become the highest tax-paying Indian celebrity for the financial year 2024-25, local media report on Tuesday.

According to report, the Big B earned around INR 3.5 billion during the year, of which he paid INR 1.2 billion as income tax.

The 82-year-old superstar paid his last instalment, an advance tax of INR. 52.50 crore, on March 15, Pinkvilla citing its sources reported.

The outlet shared that Bachchan’s hosting duty at Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) 16 is one of his income streams, apart from endorsement deals and film projects.

“From doing some of the biggest feature films of Indian Cinema to being the top pick for most of the brands – Amitabh Bachchan is an actor in demand even at the age of 82. He is also the most loved host on television with Kaun Banega Crorepati. The income from all these sources amounts to INR 3.5 billion, which is among the highest in the capacity of an individual in the film fraternity,” said a source to Pinkvilla.

“He is a role model for all the Indians even today and often makes it a point to pay all taxes on time. Amitabh Bachchan is committed to sign on for exciting projects in 2025, and leave a mark among all his fans,” the report added.

Bachchan’s INR 1.2 billion tax is 69 percent higher than the previous financial year, where he paid INR 0.71 billion.

Apart from Amitabh, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Tamil superstar Vijay are amongst the highest tax-paying Indian celebrities.

Last year, King Khan topped the list with INR 0.9 billion.
