Actress Kaitlyn Dever Reveals Surprising News for Godzilla x Kong Fans

The Godzilla x Kong franchise is set to continue following the success of 2024’s Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, with a new sequel currently in production. The MonsterVerse franchise, which debuted in 2014 and features both Godzilla and King Kong, has become a global phenomenon.

The upcoming entry was confirmed by actress Kaitlyn Dever while attending the premiere of The Last of Us Season 2 in Sydney. Dever, who will star in the highly anticipated HBO series as Abby, revealed that she is currently filming the sequel in Queensland. When asked if the project was the new Godzilla x Kong film, she confirmed, saying, “It would be, yes.”

The MonsterVerse has been a massive box office success, grossing over $2.5 billion globally. The previous film, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, earned $572.3 million worldwide and became the eighth highest-grossing film of the year. Initially, director Adam Wingard had hinted at turning the story into a trilogy, but he left due to scheduling conflicts. Grant Sputore, known for I Am Mother, will now direct, while David Callaham, who wrote the 2014 Godzilla film, will return to write the script.

The film’s cast includes Dever, Dan Stevens, Matthew Modine, Jack O’Connell, and Delroy Lindo. The full details of the plot, title, and additional cast members remain under wraps. The sequel is expected to hit theaters on March 26, 2027.
