Jaat Movie Box Office Collection Day 2: Sunny Deol Opens Up on Box Office Pressure
Sunny Deol, riding high on the historic success of Gadar 2 (2023), faced a reality check last week as his latest release, Jaat, stumbled at the box office. Despite the frenzy around his comeback, the film managed just ₹22 crore in two days—a stark contrast to Gadar 2‘s earth-shattering numbers. In a candid chat with Bollywood Life, the actor addressed the elephant in the room: Does box office pressure weigh him down?
“Pressure? I Never Take It… Until People Shove It Down My Throat”
When asked if Jaat’s lukewarm response post-Gadar 2 stressed him, Sunny shrugged off conventional expectations but admitted to simmering anxiety:
“Pressure? I’ve never really felt it in my life. But today, even if you avoid it, people poke you with a needle and say, ‘Feel the pressure!’ Because there’s so much chatter about numbers and figures… it makes you worry (ghabrahat).”
He emphasized his focus on craft over commerce:
“I work on a film hoping people will like it. How can I predict what numbers it’ll do? But when everyone keeps talking about it, that’s when the nerves kick in.”
#Jaat picked up momentum with each passing hour – exceeding industry expectations that had pegged its Thursday opening at around ₹ 7 cr.

Jaat’s Rocky Start
Released on April 10, the action drama—directed by Telugu filmmaker Gopichand Malineni in his Hindi debut—failed to gain momentum despite a star-studded cast (Randeep Hooda, Saiyami Kher, Jagapathi Babu). Its ₹22 crore haul pales next to Gadar 2’s opening day collection of ₹134 crore, highlighting the unpredictability of box office fortunes.
The Gadar 2 Shadow
The 2023 blockbuster wasn’t just a hit—it was a cultural reset, breaking records and reigniting Sunny’s career. Comparisons were inevitable, but the actor remains philosophical:
“I did my job hoping Jaat would resonate. The rest isn’t in my hands.”
