Country Music Star Thomas Rhett Falls Badly During Concert, Shares Recovery Update with Fans

Country music star Thomas Rhett is on the mend after a painful on-stage fall that left him needing medical attention—and a wheelchair. The 34-year-old singer took to Instagram to update his 4.9 million followers, showing both his sense of humor and resilience after the mishap.

“I’ve sprained my ankle a million times playing sports, but never felt it like that last night,” Rhett wrote. The injury happened during a high-energy concert in Nashville, where he joined fellow artist Forrest Frank for a surprise performance of their song Nothing Else.

The cause? A simple misstep. “Just missed a step, man… welcome to 35, I guess is the new motto,” Rhett joked. Despite the pain, he confirmed that no bones were broken, calling it a “gnarly sprain” and adding, “I can’t put weight on it just yet.”

A video shared on social media captured the whole incident. It started with his wife, Lauren Akins, pushing him in a wheelchair, then cut to the concert moment “30 minutes earlier.” As Frank asked the crowd, “Where you at?” Rhett appeared in the audience and began walking down the stairs—only to fall dramatically, captured in slow motion with a countdown reading “3… 2… 1.”

Still, Rhett made it on stage, hopping his way into the spotlight. “Every now and then you just have to sing at a Forrest Frank concert and break your ankle in the process,” he quipped. In the video, he added, “I gave my all for Tennessee tonight.”

The final clip showed his wife once again wheeling him away. Rhett captioned the post, “@hiforrest told me to pull up and I left in a wheelchair.”

Thomas Rhett, who married Lauren in 2012, shares four daughters with her: Willa Gray, Ada James, Lennon Love, and Lillie Carolina. Known for his down-to-earth personality, Rhett previously halted a 2023 show when he spotted a medical emergency in the crowd, showing the same compassion fans have come to love.

Though the fall was rough, Thomas Rhett seems to be taking it in stride—with humor, heart, and a little help from his wife.
