Disney Reboots Pirates of the Caribbean — And Yes, Johnny Depp Might Be Back!

Fans of Pirates of the Caribbean have reason to celebrate — Disney appears to be moving forward with a new installment in the iconic franchise, and Johnny Depp may be back as the beloved Captain Jack Sparrow.

According to The Express, Disney executives are treating the upcoming project as a full reboot of the series, and a script is already in place. One senior executive shared, “It’s very close to being a done deal.” He added, “Disney views this as a series reboot, meaning the door will be wide open for more future episodes for Johnny, despite everything he has been through.”

Depp last appeared as Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales in 2017. He was dropped by Disney following public controversy surrounding his legal battles with ex-wife Amber Heard. Although Depp lost a defamation case in the UK, he later won a highly publicized civil suit in the U.S., significantly shifting public opinion in his favor.

On social media, fans reacted with overwhelming enthusiasm. One user on X (formerly Twitter) urged Disney, “Listen to the people. They’re the ones buying the tickets. You already saw what happened with the Snow White movie. No one wants to see Pirates of the Caribbean without Johnny Depp!” Another fan predicted, “Last movie probably will make $2.5B if all original cast returns.”

Depp, meanwhile, is currently filming Day Drinker alongside Penélope Cruz and Outer Banks star Madelyn Cline, keeping busy as fans await official news of his return to the high seas.
