Designer Nomi Ansari in Hot Water: FBR Files Rs1.25 Billion Sales Tax Fraud Case

Famous Pakistani fashion designer Nomi Ansari is being investigated for a major sales tax fraud. The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has filed a case against him, accusing him of avoiding Rs1.25 billion in taxes.

The investigation was started by the Corporate Tax Office (CTO) in Karachi after they found strong evidence of Nomi Ansari’s tax violations. This is part of a bigger effort by the FBR to catch high-profile tax defaulters.

As part of the investigation, the FBR got search warrants and raided Nomi Ansari’s factory and stores in Mehran Town, Korangi, and DHA Karachi. During the raid, they seized important financial records, which strengthened their case.

An FBR official said, “A case involving Rs1.25 billion in sales tax fraud has been filed against Nomi Ansari. We are following up with all tax defaulters as per new instructions.” The FBR has also sent a tax demand notice to Nomi Ansari after reviewing his financial documents.

This isn’t the first time Nomi Ansari has faced trouble. In February, his shops were sealed for not following sales tax rules and Point-of-Sale (POS) integration laws. These past issues have made the current case even more serious.

Nomi Ansari is currently abroad, and there’s a possibility he could be arrested when he returns to Pakistan. If arrested, he will be presented before the Customs and Taxation Court for trial.

The FBR is serious about taking action against big tax fraud cases, especially when they involve well-known people. This case against Nomi Ansari is expected to be an important example of the FBR’s efforts to enforce tax laws.
