Ban on Pakistani Dramas Leaves Indian Fans Disheartened

01 May, 2025 13:15

Pakistani entertainment content has become the latest casualty of rising tensions between India and Pakistan. Following the April 22 Pahalgam attack, which claimed 26 lives in Indian-administered Kashmir, Indian authorities have banned popular Pakistani TV channels, making the dramas unavailable to them.

The move has left Indian fans disheartened, as they can no longer watch their favorite Pakistani serials or access the social media pages of beloved Pakistani celebrities.

This action comes as part of a broader clampdown that also saw India ban 16 Pakistani YouTube channels and several news platforms, following accusations that Pakistan was involved in the Pahalgam incident—allegations that Islamabad has firmly denied.

Social media platform X (formerly Twitter) has seen a wave of frustrated posts from viewers in India, who shared screenshots of access errors and voiced their dismay.

One user lamented, “How will I spend my free time as Pakistani dramas are banned.”

Another user pointed out the double standards, saying, “The Indian government has banned Pakistani players and dramas, but Pakistani cinemas are playing Indian Punjabi movies.”

Some viewers, anticipating a possible ban, had prepared ahead. One posted, “Thank God I downloaded all episodes of Meem se Mohabbat.”

Others joked about resorting to VPNs to keep up with their favorite shows like Humraaz.

Here’s how the Indian fans reacted to the ban:

This ban not only restricts entertainment access but also disrupts years of cultural exchange that had built loyal fanbases across borders.
