In a historic performance on Rio de Janeiro’s Copacabana Beach, Lady Gaga drew a record-breaking crowd of over two million fans for a free concert—the largest of her career. Funded by the city as part of an economic revitalization effort, the free concert of Lady Gaga is expected to generate up to $100 million for the local economy.
With 5,000 police officers, drones, facial recognition, and metal detectors in place, the massive event was tightly secured.
Lady Gaga, visibly emotional, told the roaring crowd, “You waited for me, you waited for more than 10 years for me. Brazil, I’m ready. I’m going to give it my all.” She performed in Brazil-inspired outfits and delivered hits like Alejandro, Poker Face, and Bad Romance.
Fans came from all over the country. “Lady Gaga is worth it,” said 22-year-old Alisha Duarte. Paulo Oliveira added, “She tells us we can be different—and that being different is cool.”
The concert marked Gaga’s first return to Brazil since 2012 and came as part of her global tour promoting her eighth studio album, Mayhem, featuring new songs like Abracadabra and Die With a Smile.
