Mawra Hocane’s Image from Sanam Teri Kasam Poster Removed After Her Criticism on Indian Attacks

In an apparent display of intolerance towards dissenting voices, Bollywood has removed Pakistani actress Mawra Hocane’s image from the Spotify poster of the 2016 film Sanam Teri Kasam following her outspoken condemnation of India’s recent missile strikes on Pakistan.

The update to the poster came shortly after a social media exchange between Hocane and Indian actor Harshvardhan Rane. Tensions began when India launched missile strikes on Pakistani territory last week, an action widely regarded as a violation of sovereignty that led to the loss of innocent lives. Pakistan’s armed forces responded swiftly and effectively.

In the wake of these strikes, many Pakistani celebrities, including Mawra Hocane, voiced their opposition. Hocane condemned the attack, calling it a “cowardly action” and expressed her solidarity with her country. She firmly stood against India’s aggression, saying, “Children in my country died due to an unjustified cowardly attack… and this is what you come up with… a PR statement to get attention? What a pity.”

In response, Harshvardhan Rane shared Hocane’s comments on Instagram, expressing his disapproval. He said, “After reading the direct comments made about my country, I have decided to respectfully decline to be a part of Sanam Teri Kasam Part 2 if there is any possibility of the previous cast being repeated.”

Hocane did not hold back, criticizing Rane’s timing and opportunism during a time of heightened geopolitical tension. She fired back, “Our countries have been at war… and you use this time to seek relevance? Shameful. My country above everything else! Pakistan Zindabad.”

Months prior, Sanam Teri Kasam had garnered renewed attention due to rumors about a sequel and Hocane’s high-profile marriage announcement. However, Bollywood’s swift response to her comments highlights the deep-rooted cultural bias against Pakistani artists, a bias that resurfaces every time they challenge the narratives being pushed.

Despite the ceasefire between India and Pakistan, Bollywood’s cultural war against Lollywood continues unabated. However, Mawra Hocane’s bold stance has strengthened her image for many in Pakistan, not just as an actress, but as a patriot who remains firm when it matters the most.

Actress Hina Altaf expressed her support, stating, “It doesn’t matter as Mawra stands strong with her own people.”
