Areej Chaudhary, Sarah Omair Share Disturbing Incidents Faced By Women in Showbiz

Pakistani actresses Areej Chaudhary and Sarah Omair opened up about disturbing incidents faced by women in the entertainment industry, particularly newer or junior artists.

They recently appeared on a morning show where Areej Chaudhary shared an incident from a shoot in Lahore where she was playing the lead role. She recalled how a junior artist, likely hired on daily wages, became the subject of inappropriate behavior by some crew members. “They were watching footage of her changing clothes and even inviting others to see it,” she said. Areej, though not in a powerful position at the time, kept watch outside the changing room. She later warned the artist about what had happened and advised her to be more careful. “It was upsetting. I’m always conscious — I don’t even use changing rooms in brand outlets,” she added.

Sarah Omair also recalled a troubling experience from early in her career. While working with a well-known director, she felt someone inappropriately touching her under a table during a shoot. When she realized it was the director, she immediately moved her chair. “He later grabbed my arm and I slapped him right then and there. I told him I would never work with him again,” she shared. Sarah added that veteran actress Fareeha Jabeen and her cousin witnessed the incident and have spoken about it since. “People know I don’t tolerate this kind of behavior,” she said firmly.
