Pakistani star Mahira Khan has shared her thoughts on possibly working in Bollywood again, amid ongoing political tensions between India and Pakistan. While promoting her latest film Love Guru, Mahira was asked if she’d consider returning to Indian cinema.
“I think we need to look inward and focus on our own industry,” she said. “I don’t believe in cancel culture or boycotts, but in the current situation, we are all emotional. Therefore, instead of taking a hard stance, we should focus on ourselves and invest in Pakistan.”
Mahira, who made her Bollywood debut in 2017 opposite Shah Rukh Khan in Raees, has not returned to Indian films since then. The current strain between the two nations flared up further after she criticized India’s military operation called “Operation Sindoor,” calling it “an act of extreme cowardice.”
In response, the All Indian Cine Workers Association condemned her remarks, calling them “an insult to the nation,” and enforced a full ban on Pakistani artists in Bollywood. This ban led to the removal of Pakistani actors’ images, including Mahira and Fawad Khan, from Indian platforms like music apps and film posters.
For now, Mahira seems content to focus on the Pakistani entertainment scene. Her recent remarks reflect a desire to grow the local industry during these turbulent times, rather than pushing back against the cultural freeze with India.
