The heartbreaking murder of 17-year-old TikToker and MBBS student Sana Yousuf has shocked the nation and sparked an outpouring of grief and anger across Pakistan. Celebrities, activists, and the public alike are calling for swift justice and stronger measures to protect women from gender-based violence.
Sana, a first-year medical student from Chitral, was shot and killed in her home in front of her mother and aunt. According to Islamabad police, the 22-year-old suspect—Sana’s cousin—was arrested shortly after the incident. He confessed to the crime, and police recovered both the murder weapon and Sana’s mobile phone from him.
Authorities say the suspect killed Sana because she repeatedly rejected his advances.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi confirmed the arrest on Tuesday and shared updates about the investigation, including the recovery of key evidence. The tragic incident has triggered widespread condemnation and calls for justice from across the country.
Many well-known celebrities have used their platforms to express their sadness and anger over Sana’s death.
Mahira Khan spoke out strongly, posting on social media that an example needs to be made of the one who did this to her. She demanded accountability and justice for the young TikToker. Her message was widely shared, with many praising her for using her voice to speak up.
Sajal Aly also took to social media to share her sorrow over the horrifying incident. Saddened by the fact that Sana was killed simply for saying no, she said the attack was a brutal reminder of the dangers women face for asserting their right to choose.
Maya Ali expressed her frustration and grief, urging that the culprit be punished to the full extent of the law. She said that the perpetrator should be arrested and hanged.
Veteran actress Nadia Jamil also joined in, mourning the loss of the teenage girl. She called Sana’s death tragic and said she hoped justice would be served.
Popular actor Imran Abbas echoed these emotions, saying he was deeply disturbed by the murder and called on the government to act immediately.
He highlighted how urgent it is to take serious action in cases where women are killed in the name of “honor.”
The murder of Sana Yousaf has once again put a spotlight on the growing concern of violence against women in Pakistan. As the investigation continues, people across the country are watching closely and demanding that justice is not only promised—but delivered.
