Veteran TV actress Maria Wasti has shared the reason behind her prolonged absence from the entertainment scene, stating that she hasn’t come across a script compelling enough to return to acting.
Speaking on a private comedy talk show, Wasti — known for her powerful performances since the 1990s — said, “There is no specific reason for my distance from acting. I am simply waiting for a role that captures my heart — something new, creative, and challenging that truly tests my skills as an actor.”
She confirmed that she continues to receive offers but hasn’t yet found a story that inspires her. “When a good script with a unique character comes my way, I will definitely work again,” she said.
Wasti voiced concerns about the current state of TV dramas, noting the lack of originality and emotional depth in storytelling. “Characters are not being written with layers anymore. There are many shades within a person, but unfortunately, we see the same topics and stories being recycled.”
Recalling her days on PTV, she fondly remembered the rich roles she once played, saying, “I still love the characters I portrayed in those days — I used to completely lose myself in them.”
She also shared a personal view on love, calling it a “selfish emotion” that can change a person profoundly.
Wasti ended the chat with a humorous story about a fan who once followed her home, joking that her “acting skills really came in handy in that situation.”
Her comments have sparked conversation in the entertainment industry about the need for more diverse and meaningful content.
