The Fantastic Four: First Steps Ending and Post-Credit Scene Explained – What It Means for the MCU

26 July, 2025 17:54

July 26, 2025 – Marvel’s latest movie The Fantastic Four: First Steps is now in theaters and fans are buzzing about its emotional ending and shocking post-credits scene. This film introduces the new Fantastic Four to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and sets up a major villain for future movies.

Franklin Richards Saves the Day

In the movie, Reed Richards (Pedro Pascal) and Sue Storm (Vanessa Kirby) face a massive threat. The powerful cosmic villain Galactus (played by Ralph Ineson) arrives on Earth, demanding their newborn son Franklin. Why? Because Franklin holds the Power Cosmic, a force Galactus wants for his next heir.

To stop Galactus, Reed creates a teleportation plan. It fails. So, the Fantastic Four sets a trap in New York using Franklin as bait. Just as Galactus starts to escape, Sue uses all her powers to push him into a wormhole.

But he tries to break free.

Johnny Storm (Joseph Quinn) almost sacrifices himself. Instead, Silver Surfer Shalla-Bal (Julia Garner) takes his place and sends Galactus into deep space. Sue nearly dies from exhaustion, but baby Franklin brings her back to life.

Who Is Franklin Richards?

In comics, Franklin Richards is one of the most powerful characters. Even as a baby in the film, his powers are beyond anything Reed and Sue imagined.

Director Matt Shakman said the movie explores parental fears – especially when your child is stronger than you. Sue ends the movie saying: “Who knows what he will become, but he’s here now.” It’s a message about love and hope, despite an uncertain future.

Post-Credit Scene: Doctor Doom Enters

The mid-credits scene jumps four years ahead. Sue reads a book to young Franklin. When she returns, she sees a hooded figure talking to her son. He holds a silver mask. The music changes.

It’s a sign.

Doctor Doom has entered the story.

Marvel has confirmed that Robert Downey Jr. will play Doom in “Avengers: Doomsday”, which hits theaters on December 18, 2026.

Will There Be a Sequel?

A direct sequel to Fantastic Four: First Steps hasn’t been announced yet. But fans will see the team again in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars (set for December 17, 2027). Expect the Fantastic Four to team up with the Avengers, X-Men, and more against the rising threat of Doctor Doom.
