Pakistani actress Mahira Khan has once again found herself in the midst of controversy after sending a heartfelt birthday message to Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan on social media. On November 2, 2025, Mahira Khan took to her Instagram story to wish Shah Rukh Khan a happy 60th birthday, describing him as her “one and only Gangsta Sufi” and expressing that she would “never ever stop fangirling” over him.

While the message was warmly received by her fans, it quickly sparked a wave of criticism from some social media users. Critics accused the actress of using Shah Rukh Khan’s name for attention and publicity, with others suggesting that it was an unnecessary act that crossed “national boundaries.” These criticisms come at a time when political tensions and cultural sensitivities between Pakistan and India are a topic of ongoing discussion.

 

One user sarcastically commented, “When will we feel ashamed?” in response to Mahira Khan’s post, while others voiced their disapproval. Despite the backlash, a section of her supporters defended the actress, emphasizing the importance of keeping art and personal expression above politics.

This incident is not the first time Mahira Khan has been criticized for expressing admiration for the Bollywood actor. In December 2024, during the World Urdu Conference, Mahira responded to similar criticism by clarifying that she never initiates discussions about Shah Rukh Khan. Instead, she said she only answers questions about him when asked during interviews. Frustrated, she had remarked, “If you don’t want me to talk about him, then don’t ask me.”

Mahira Khan’s recent post has reignited debates on the freedom of expression of artists, particularly in the context of Pakistan-India relations.
