RRR, Lagaan Feature in Rotten Tomatoes’ Top 100 Long Films

Bollywood cinema has achieved international recognition as two Indian films rank among Rotten Tomatoes’ top 100 films over three hours long. S.S. Rajamouli’s RRR secured the 12th position, while Aamir Khan’s Lagaan ranked 13th on the list of the 100 greatest films with a runtime of over three hours.

The news was shared on RRR’s official Twitter account, highlighting the film’s global appeal and acclaim. The post stating:
“Thrilled to see #RRRMovie placed #12 in the all-time 100 best movies 3 hours or longer on @RottenTomatoes!”

Rotten Tomatoes stated in its critics’ consensus for Lagaan: “Lagaan is grand, exhilarating entertainment in the classic style of Hollywood musicals.” The synopsis reads: “Set in 1893, India was under British rule. In a remote village, the oppressive Captain Russell (Paul Blackthorne) challenges the villagers to a game of cricket to relieve heavy taxes.” Lagaan was also nominated for an Academy Award. RRR starred N.T. Rama Rao Jr., Ram Charan, Ajay Devgn, and Alia Bhatt, and was directed by renowned filmmaker S.S. Rajamouli.

RRR also gained massive popularity for its song Naatu Naatu. The film won two Critics Choice Awards: Best Foreign Language Film and Best Song for Naatu Naatu. The energetic performance by Ram Charan and N.T. Rama Rao Jr. made history as it became the first song from a fully homegrown Indian film to receive an Oscar nomination in the Best Original Song category at the 2023 Academy Awards, announced on January 24.

Just below RRR, Lagaan held the 13th position. Released in 2001, Lagaan was directed by Ashutosh Gowariker and starred Aamir Khan, Gracy Singh, Rachel Shelley, and Paul Blackthorne.
