The Raja Saab Review: Worth a Weekend Watch?

09 January, 2026 15:46

Maruthi Dasari directed The Raja Saab, produced by TG Vishwa Prasad and Krithi Prasad, with music composed by Thaman S. Starring South Indian actor Prabhas in the lead role, the film was released on January 9, 2026, marking Prabhas’ return to the pan-India horror-comedy genre.

The film’s story centres on Gangamma, portrayed by Zarina Wahab, an Alzheimer’s patient, and Prabhas in a lighter role as her grandson. Gangamma forgets everything except her husband, Pekamedala Kanakaraju, played by Sanjay Dutt, who is a key character in the story. Pekamedala is a sorcerer believed to have been expatriated. Raju sets out on a journey to find his grandfather but learns that he is dead and has now returned as a malicious spirit. As the story unfolds, Pekamedala’s darker past is revealed, and Raju begins to resist him.

The movie features extensive VFX effects and is largely shot on indoor sets. Several comedy sequences are carried by a group of supporting characters known for their comic timing.

Overall, the film can still be a fun watch and deserves to be viewed as a neutral spectacle. Dismissing it outright may not be fair, considering the effort involved in making it.
