Dr. Mehrub Moiz Awan’s Appearance in MZHT Disturbs the Public

13 January, 2026 13:30

Dr. Mehrub Moiz Awan is a Pakistani transgender rights activist, performance artist, and global policy practitioner with a strong interest in post-coloniality, indigenous wisdom, and the intersections of class, race, gender, and sexuality.

In Pakistani showbiz, dramas, films, and television shows largely depend on public opinion. The appearance of Dr. Mehrub Moiz Awan in the drama Meri Zindagi Hai Tu also disturbed some viewers, with several people expressing their thoughts and questioning why the media promotes certain personalities.

A fan expressed intense anger and, citing an authentic Hadith from Bukhari, claimed to reveal the true nature of this person. Those promoting Dr. Mehrub on social media, such as Muneed Qadir, were also criticized, with references made to what Allah and His Messenger say about such people.

In response, Muneed Qadir said, “Insecure online Molvis and Youthiyas have lost their crap after watching Mehrub Awan’s cameo appearance in Meri Zindagi Hai Tu. Why? Because she has been presented as an everyday doctor going about her daily life in a scene rather than being stigmatized the way these jealous sh*ts had wanted to. Mehrub is an extremely talented person, and I have personally told her many times that she needs to pursue acting. She’s got the acting chops, and I’m so glad to see her in a popular drama, stealing the scene with her towering screen presence. Way to go, girl.”

Following this post, the public filled the comments section by expressing their views. One person said, “HE*, not SHE. No jealousy, but concern. We don’t want our children to end up so confused about their bodies when they see such people in dramas.”

Another comment expressing discomfort over Mehrub’s appearance in the drama stated, “I condemn the misrepresentation of gender in this scene. How can a man be presented as a woman?”

Others emphasized that while defending someone is acceptable, criticism is also part of freedom of speech and should not be suppressed. One comment read, “Defending identity is fine, but defending every opinion isn’t. Criticism is part of free speech. Calling others insecure while shutting down debate is hypocrisy. Live how you want, just don’t impose your version on society and expect zero criticism.”
