Vijay’s Viral Housewarming Party Video Surfaces Amid Jana Nayagan Setback

An old video of Thalapathy Vijay attending a housewarming ceremony in Malaysia has gone viral, coinciding with a major legal setback for his film Jana Nayagan. The video surfaced on social media shortly after the Supreme Court said it was “not inclined” to hear the producers’ plea.

Vijay was in Kuala Lumpur for the grand audio launch of Jana Nayagan, his final film before focusing full-time on politics. He was accompanied by director H Vinoth, music composer Anirudh Ravichander, female lead Pooja Hegde, and other cast and crew members. During the visit, Vijay attended the housewarming of Dato Abdul Malik, Chairman of Malik Streams Group, the film’s Malaysian distributor.

Abdul Malik shared the video on Instagram, writing, “Moments from the housewarming, a meaningful milestone and a dream come true, shared with family and friends who made it even more special.” He added, “Heartfelt thanks to everyone who was present and turned this day into a beautiful memory. Special gratitude to Thalapathy Vijay for gracing the occasion and inaugurating the house. Alhamdulillah for this moment, and thank you for all the doa.”

The legal troubles for Jana Nayagan began when the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) withheld certification over concerns that certain scenes might hurt religious sentiments. The makers approached the Madras High Court, which initially directed the CBFC to issue a U/A 16 certificate, offering temporary relief. However, the CBFC challenged this decision, prompting the producers to approach the Supreme Court. The top court refused to entertain their plea on January 14, directing them to the Madras High Court for a hearing on January 20.

Earlier, the High Court had criticised the CBFC for entertaining complaints against the film, warning that it could set a “dangerous trend.” The CBFC has filed a caveat requesting that no order be passed without hearing its side. Amid the controversy, Vijay wished fans on the festival via X, tweeting, “Heartfelt Pongal and Tamil New Year greetings to one and all!” The actor recently launched his political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam.
