TikToker Nep2une Viral Claim About Off-Duty Latino ICE Agent Sparks Debate Amid Minneapolis Tensions
Several videos and reports of ICE arrests have been trending recently, particularly in Minneapolis, drawing significant public attention. Among these, a TikTok video by user Nep2une has gone viral, in which he claimed that an off-duty Latino ICE agent was arrested by another ICE officer at a gas station. In the video, the TikToker stated:
“Did you all hear about the off-duty Latino ICE agent that was pumping gas at the gas station and was arrested and detained by ICE? I literally can’t make this sh*t up.”
Nep2une further suggested that joining ICE does not guarantee safety, saying:
“He thought that by becoming a traitor and joining them he was going to be safe. I’m telling you, when they’re done using you for their political gain, you’re next. You’re not safe.”
The video has already garnered over 654K views, but many netizens expressed skepticism, pointing out that ICE officers would likely have identified the Latino officer through his equipment, including his service weapon.
Amid growing scrutiny of ICE, Democratic lawmakers criticized the agency’s actions, claiming that ICE agents “terrorize US citizens.” The criticisms follow the recent fatal shooting of Renee Good in Minneapolis, which sparked protests and heightened tensions in the city.
According to the BBC, Congressional Democrats held a press conference in Saint Paul, Minnesota, labeling ICE’s immigration operations as cruel. Congressman Adriano Espaillat described ICE as a “deadly weapon,” while Minnesota Congresswoman Ilhan Omar accused the agency of “disappearing” legal U.S. citizens, claiming that prior coordination with local officials is no longer standard. Washington Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal added, “This is not getting the ‘worst of the worst’ off the street, as Donald Trump said.”
Recent images show ICE agents facing protests outside the Whipple Federal Building in Minneapolis. While Governor Kristi Noem stated that ICE would continue its operations, the FBI is investigating the death of Renee Good. Former President Donald Trump briefly threatened to use the Insurrection Act against Minnesota protests but later clarified, “If I needed it, I’d use it. I don’t think there’s any reason right now to use it.”
Meanwhile, Minnesota officials, including Governor Tim Walz and Mayor Jacob Frey, have publicly criticized ICE for continuing such operations amidst the unrest.
