Kristen Stewart Spoke About Inequality in Hollywood
Kristen Stewart spoke about inequality in Hollywood during the promotion of her directorial debut, The Chronology of Water; she expressed her experience and showed visible contrast during her journey from film actress to film director.
The 35-year-old actress said she was suddenly being spoken to “like somebody with a brain,” noting that female screen stars are often treated “like puppets,” to The Sunday Times’ Culture magazine.
Her words: “Actresses get treated like s***, I’ve got to tell you,” she added. “People think anyone could be an actress, but the first time I sat down to talk about my movie as a director, I thought, ‘Wow, this is a different experience. They’re talking to me like I’m somebody with a brain.”
During the interview somewhere else, the Bella Swan actress of Twilight enlightened us that the directors have ‘otherworldly abilities,’ that her idea is absolutely not acceptable, and that it is only broadly supported by men.
Snow White and the Huntsman stated that “Not to sound like I’m complaining all the time, but it’s worse for female actors than male ones—they get treated like puppets, but they are not.”
In the interview, Krissten was asked if she were a man, it’d be easier for her to secure funds, so in response, Stewart acknowledged she doesn’t believe a man could have made the film, which centers on a competitive swimmer whose life is shaped by childhood abuse.
The actor is currently promoting her directorial debut, The Chronology of Water, which is set to be released in UK cinemas on February 6, 2026.
