Ranveer Singh insulted to Chavundi Daiva tradition: FIR Filled
An Indian Bollywood actor, Ranveer Singh’s imitation of Panjurli/Guliga Daiva led him to face a backlash, as he insulted or hurt Hindu religious sentiments. An FIR was alleged at the High Ground Police Station in Bengaluru. An NDTV reporter claimed that the case was filed on Wednesday, months after the incident that, to begin with, flickered controversy.
The FIR relays the incident that happened on November 28, 2025, at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) closing ceremony in Goa.
The Dhurandhar actor was accused of imitating a Daiva act, which is inspired by Rishab Shetty’s film Kantara: A Legend Chapter 1, during the ceremony.
The reporter depicted a high-pitched buzz on social media, with many users alleging the Simmba actor of imitating a sacred ritual deeply rooted in the cultural and religious practices of coastal Karnataka.
The Circus actor, Ranveer Singh, through his Instagram story, issued a proper apology after facing criticism, as he wants to express his guilt for his action to the people who were hurt by his silly act, although he made it clear that he did not do it purposely or want to insult or disgrace any religious ritual, group, or tradition. Now the allegation turned into legal proceedings.
The FIR was filled under sections 196, 299, and 302 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) legal framework. Prashanth Methal, a 46-year-old advocate based in Bengaluru, filed the complaint against the actor’s insulting, funny way of using the Panjurli and Guliga Daiva expressions.
The complainant stated that he showed disrespect to Chavundi Daiva by calling her a “female ghost,” which he considered a serious insult to religious beliefs and traditional practices.
The Bengaluru court, the 1st Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM), received the case, which was handled by the police previously, and the case hearing will start on April 8. Ranveer Singh and his team are still muted on this FIR.
