Ranveer Singh's Mimicry Controversy: Court Grants Relief
The controversy started during the Award ceremony of IFFI 2025 in Goa. Ranveer supposedly mimicked the sacred Daiva series from Kantara: Chapter 1. Reports claimed that, he mentioned to the respected Chamundi or Chavundi Daiva as a female ghost or devil while copying the deity’s expressions.
Kantara: Chapter 1, presented by Rishab Shetty, had received huge appreciation for its illustration of local traditions and divinities. This made the alleged mimicry even more sensitive.
‘Dhurandhar’ star has move toward the Karnataka High Court facing an FIR registered against him over his mimicry of a character in ‘Kantara: Chapter 1’.
The Karnataka High Court has given’ Gully Boy’ actor temporary relief in a case that’s become a night terror for the actor.
Actor Ranveer Singh has got temporary relief from the Karnataka High Court in the Kantara Mimicry case, but the court made it very clear that fame does not give anyone special rights.
The matter was heard by a single-judge bench of Justice M, and he didn’t hold back when telling him exactly what they think about his behavior. He strongly said, “You may be Ranveer Singh or anybody. You can’t be loose tongued at all! We will see if there is mens rea. But you being an actor, you have influence on so many people. You have to be responsible. If you are speaking about a deity (you have to do your research), you can’t call it a ghost.
You have no right to hurt anybody’s religious sentiments. You have apologized, but will your apology take back all the words? I, you, people may forget. But internet never forgets.”
The judge added, “He has spoken ‘female ghost’ and act of mimicking Rishab Shetty, would definitely hurt sentiments…. You can’t be loose tongued!”
Sajan Poovayy, a senior Advocate, Ranveer’s Lawyer told in court, that people took his words the wrong way. The lawyer insisted there was no plan to hurt people feelings.
The Gunday movie actor lead had issued a public apology for following controversy, expressing his guilty feelings and said that he did not mean to hurt anyone’s feelings and would evade comparable remarks in the future, for sure.
The court has given Ranveer breathing space until March 2. Until that time, police won’t allow to arrest him or take any strict action. Though, he has to cooperate fully with the investigation. The case has become a talking point about how celebrities should behave, especially when dealing with religious and cultural topics.
