Britney Spears Arrested on Suspicion of DUI in California

The Gimme More hit maker Britney was arrested early on Thursday morning in California, but was released hours later and is due in court in May.

As first reported by TMZ then confirmed by Variety that, the singer was stopped and handcuffed by the California highway patrol at about 9.28pm local time, and during a traffic check after allegedly driving her black BMW “erratically at a high rate of speed” while near the Borchard Road off-ramp in Newbury Park.

The CHP confirmed that she “showed signs of impairment and submitted to a series of field sobriety tests”. Then she was arrested in order to driving under the influence of a combination of drugs and alcohol and take her to the nearby hospital for a blood draw to control her blood alcohol content. She did not endure any injuries.

Reports also claimed that, officers also found an unknown substance inside her car at the time of her arrest.

She was booked into the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office at about 3 a.m. Thursday, with her occupation listed simply as “celebrity.” Released by 6:15 a.m. under a “cite and release” process, her vehicle was impounded, and no probation was noted.

A court date is set for May 4, 2026. Post-release, Spears deleted her Instagram account, whose final post read: “representing frag be careful friends when with the queen of hearts.” Representatives for Britney Jean Spears have not commented, and the case remains developing.

Notably, the news has flickered main concern amid Brittney’s fans as they think she is alone and in a worried need of help.
