Sindh govt to reopen drive-in cinema in Karachi - Check locations here
The Sindh Government has decided to bring back drive-in cinemas to promote safe and family-friendly entertainment. The idea is to mix old memories with modern facilities and give people an affordable way to enjoy movies outdoors.
Drive-in Cinema Returning to Karachi
The Sindh Culture, Tourism, and Antiquities Department confirmed that drive-in cinemas will return to Karachi.
Provincial Minister Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah approved the plan during a meeting. The aim is to give families a safe and open place to watch movies together.
Planned Location and Movies
The first drive-in cinema is likely to be built near Beach View Park on the Clifton coastline. This location is similar to the old Sunset Cinema idea.
Different types of movies will be shown, including cartoons for kids and classic films. A special board will select films that promote positive social values.
Facilities and Ticket Plan
The cinema will have space for around 150 cars in one show. The government plans to run it on a “no profit, no loss” basis so tickets remain affordable.
Shows will mostly be held on weekends, from Friday to Sunday.
Part of Tourism Plan
This project is part of the government’s plan to improve tourism in 2026. Other projects include a train safari from Karachi to Sukkur and new water sports at Keenjhar Lake.
Officials say the drive-in cinema will give people a new and enjoyable outdoor experience while supporting the local film industry.
