Ali Zafar Wins Defamation Case: Celebrities React With Praise and Criticism

02 April, 2026 12:17

Lahore court announced the verdict on Ali Zafar’s defamation case against singer Misha Shafi after 8 years according to which Ali Zafar was declared innocent while Meesha Shafi was fined 5 million rupees.

Public figure and some well-know celebrities were not sitting well on the court judgement, and backing Misha Shafi such as Iffat Omer who mentioned her participation in the case and the result faced by those who spoke in support.

She said in a post, “So the final verdict from session court of Meesha Shafi vs Ali Zafar defamation case came out. I was not only a primary character witness, I knew both families and both children very closely. If I took a side, it was with 100% certainty and belief.”

After the court’s decision, she expressed her concerns, claiming that people had been “silenced, pressured, bought and scared”. The entire support system is broken, Omar said, adding that it was not just Shafi’s loss.

Not Only iffat Omer and same fear elevated by Journalist Sabahbano Malik, share her point of view to emphasize this matter.

Said, “A few years ago I was approached by a TV channel to do an entertainment industry focused talk show. On the very first day for the interview I walked in on about 4-5 men going through my Instagram profile casted on the TV on the wall. They quickly closed it but – ick.”

She went on to talk about victim blaming and said, “Women are not safe here. And even if that court did the most unsurprising thing they could do as a Pakistani court – punish a woman, I’m still proud and inspired as hell that women stood ten toes down for the truth. For each other. For what they believe in.”

“Men have no proof they did not harass or grope us. Men will always be trusted,” she said and questioned standards of evidence, writing, “How do I prove to you that the man who assaulted me in a crowd did? You want video? You want me sporting bruises to prove that I fought?”

Also Maheen Ghani not seems happy the verdict and expressed her point based on legal evidence, not on people’s full real-life experiences.

Her word, “This isn’t just a verdict, it’s a message. That the burden of proof is heavier than the cost of silence, and for many women, the courtroom will feel less like protection and more like exposure. Every woman watching is taking notes, not on justice, but on consequence. If speaking up leads to punishment, what exactly is the system protecting? Stay strong.”

While on the other page of the chapter, many celebrity and public figure satisfied with the judgment, treating it as an issue of evidence and proper legal procedure.

Former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry congratulated Zafar, writing, “Huge congratulations @AliZafarsays. I never doubted your innocence.”

He added, “It is high time the Geo anchors who spearheaded the campaign against you take responsibility and apologize”.

Ammad Yousaf ARY News President also underlined the division between legal proceedings and public speech. “This case isn’t about men vs women it’s about evidence vs allegations,” he said and added that those “who misuse such serious claims must be held accountable strictly”.

Journalist Iqrar Ul Hassan resonated a similar place. “Ali Zafar has won the case of sexual harassment allegations leveled against him by Meesha Shafi. In such cases, women like this should be made an example of.”

In contrast of Iqrar Ul Hassan statement Iffat Omer, who is already protesting against the injustice with Meesha Shafi, slammed for his one-sided and insensitive statement regarding the matter.

Taking his post to her Instagram Iffat Omer wrote: He calls himself a champion of women’s rights—what a sick man. What do you mean by women like this??? Not all women are animals who blindly believe someone, like the ones on your side. You have been the most disgusting host all your life, and yes, quite an example of a “happy life”. You have blackmailed people, have zero grace as a TV personality, and yet you come out in support of an accused harasser.
