GOT Actor Michael Patrick Dies at 35 After Battling MND

09 April, 2026 09:47

Michael Patrick, known for his roles in Game of Thrones and BBC series like My Left Nut, has passed away at the age of 35 due to motor neurone disease (MND). His wife, Naomi Sheehan, confirmed that he was in hospice care before his passing on April 8, 2026.

Diagnosed with MND in 2023 during a performance at the Dublin Fringe Festival, Michael initially experienced weakness in his foot, which rapidly progressed to his upper body. Despite undergoing a tracheostomy in February 2026 to potentially extend his life, the progressive nature of MND led to his untimely death. His father had also succumbed to MND during Michael’s adolescence, making the disease a tragic family legacy.

MND, or motor neurone disease, is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder that impairs nerve function in the brain and spinal cord, leading to muscle weakness, stiffness, and paralysis. Types of MND include ALS, PBP, PMA, and PLS. The disease is incurable and typically life-shortening, with rapid progression from initial symptoms.

Michael Patrick began his acting career at Cambridge Footlights and later trained at Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts in London. He appeared in Game of Thrones (Seasons 6–7), Blue Lights, This Town, and co-wrote My Left Nut. His 2025 performance in Mordlichtern- Tod auf den Faroer Inseln and a standing ovation at Lyric Theatre, Belfast for Richard III highlighted his acting range. His last social media post reflected his awareness of the limited time left, inspiring fans with his positive outlook despite the diagnosis.

Michael is survived by his wife Naomi, mother Pauline, siblings Kate, Maurice, Hannah, and nephew Michael. His wife shared a heartfelt tribute, calling him an inspiration: “Eat. Drink. Love. Naomi — Mick’s wife.”
