Millie Bobby Brown Admits She Felt ‘Broken’ After Marvel Audition

Millie Bobby Brown reminded gone out on a big Marvel chance, stating the audition’s ending left her feeling “broken.”

Stranger Thing character Eleven made Brown worldwide sensation, but also came close to landing a role in the 2017 X-Men spin-off Logan.

During Entertainment Weekly’s Lie vs Lie video series, Brown shared an story with Louis Partridge, her Enola Holmes 3 co-star, and questioned him to guess if it was true or false.

“I screen-tested with Hugh Jackman when I was like, 11 or 12,” she offered during the game, before saying that it was for “the Wolverine movies.”

Brown open up that the failed audition left her feeling “broken” at the time.

After hearing Brown’s revelation, Partridge correctly finished it was true, saying she would have been the perfect age to play Laura/X-23 in the 2017 film Logan.

Brown revealed that the story was genuine, and explained that she had tried to trick Partridge by describing it as a “Wolverine” movie.

The role of Laura/X23 eventually went to Dafne Keen, and she reprised it in both The New Mutants (via archival footage from Logan) and MCU entry Deadpool & Wolverine.

Back in 2017, Brown spoke about the role more positively, in an interview on Variety’s Actors on Actors series. The actress recalled it as “the best” audition and said it was an opportunity that meant so much to her.”

I was filming Stranger Things and I was like, ‘This is gonna be amazing, I’m gonna really prepare’, and I sat in my room reading the lines,” she told Evan Rachel Wood at the time.

She further said, “And honestly, for me, I felt so… I felt [like] an actor, in the audition room, hitting Hugh Jackman, and [director] James Mangold sitting right in front of me. I was like, ‘Oh my goodness!’ It was the best audition.”

Missing out on the role didn’t stop Brown, she subsequently landed a major part as the titular character in Netflix’s Enola Holmes franchise.

The latest film in the series, released earlier this week, has been well received with generally positive reviews.
