Charles Spencer’s Diana Book Faces Legal Trouble as Palace Responds

King Charles, Queen Camilla and Prince William are maintaining a dignified silence amid the controversy surrounding Charles Spencer’s new book about Princess Diana.

The royal family has largely avoided giving further attention to the claims made in Spencer’s memoir Swan Song: Diana, My Sister, following Buckingham Palace’s initial response to one of his allegations. Prince of Wales has also maintain silence and decided not to comment publicly when asked about the book.

The memoir has caught attention for its assertions about Diana, King Charles and other royal family members. The Palace has look into the consistency of memories shaped by grief, while Spencer has continued to stand by his broader account.

The book has also faced controversy over a factual error involving broadcaster Piers Morgan. Spencer incorrectly linked Morgan to the publication of intrusive photographs of Diana in 1993, although Morgan joined the Daily Mirror two years later. Spencer later make an apology and said the mistake would be revised in a future publication.

Morgan has said the apology is not enough and point out that he proposes to pursue legal action against Spencer and publisher Penguin.

Meanwhile, King Charles and Prince William have continued with their public duties rather than becoming involved in the dispute. The controversy has placed further focus on the memoir’s accuracy and the claims surrounding Diana’s life.
