Evening classes in Sindh Schools cancelled due to rain on Friday

The Sindh School Education and Literacy Department issued a notification, declaring the cancellation of all evening classes in both private and public schools for the safety of students and staff in light of the anticipated adverse weather conditions.

Earlier, Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Syed Murad Ali Shah on Thursday imposed a rain emergency in the province and declared Friday (March 1) to be a half-day for all government and private offices in Karachi.

In a post on X, Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab Siddiqui said the decision for the half-day was taken as an “abundant precaution”. He also requested citizens to avoid travelling unnecessarily to stave off any inconvenience.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast rain and thunderstorms from the night of February 29, 2024, until the morning of March 2, 2024.

In Karachi, rain is expected to start on Friday afternoon after 2 pm, with intermittent spells that may lead to urban flooding.

DG PDMA Salman Shah informed the chief minister that the city should expect between 16 to 32 mm of rainfall within a 12-hour period on March 1.

A strong westerly wave has entered Pakistan and is approaching western parts of the country. Under the influence of this weather system, it said rain-wind/thunderstorm is expected in Sukkur, Jacobabad, Kashmore, Larkana, Dadu, Shaheed Benazirabad Karachi, Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, and Khairpur.
