FM sees Pakistan and Afghanistan as bridge connecting Central Asia and Arabian Sea.

Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi expressed these views, while addressing the forum of Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).

He made speech through video-link to the ECOSOC, the third Charter organ of the United Nations on its 75th anniversary.

FM sees Pakistan and Afghanistan as bridge

He further said Pakistan has a vital interest in a peaceful, stable, united and prosperous Afghanistan.

The FM said it would enable both countries to serve a bridge connecting Central Asia and the Arabian Sea and beyond.

He noted numerous shovel-ready projects awaiting peace in Afghanistan, such as TAPI gas pipeline, CASA-1000 electricity grid from Tajikistan.

Qureshi also mentioned the railway connecting Uzbekistan, Afghanistan and Pakistan.

He said first phase of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor nears to completion.

Its second phase envisages the creation of several Special Economic Zones, that remain open to participation of third countries.

He said Pakistan greatly appreciates the intention of several fraternal and friendly countries.

They include: Saudi Arabia, UAE, Turkey and others, to invest in Pakistan’s economy.

Meanwhile, Pakistan, United States, Uzbekistan, and Afghanistan have agreed to establish this platform with focus on enhancing regional connectivity.

It will focus on enhancing regional connectivity.
