Google warning to delete inactive Gmail account

14 November, 2023 11:30

California(Web Desk) ; Technology giant Google has started warning users about Gmail account deletion operations from next month.
In this operation, Google will permanently delete all private accounts including email, documents, spreadsheets, calendar appointments, photos and videos that have not been used for at least two years.
This policy was introduced by Google at the beginning of this year, which was to be applied from December 2023.
Ruth Crashley, Google’s vice president of product management, wrote in a blogspot last May that the company is extending the period of inactivity policy for Google Accounts to two years.
This move by Google is to protect active users from phishing schemes (spoofing) and account hijacking.
Old accounts that have not been used for years can be easy targets for hackers as their data is easily available on the dark web.
According to Google, any account that is at risk of being deleted will be given multiple notifications before it is deleted.
