Hockey team given warm welcome at Lahore airport

After giving an impressive performance in the Azlan Shah Hockey Tournament, the national team returned home today.

According to GTV, the national hockey team reached Lahore from Malaysia’ Kuala Lumpur via PIA flight PK-899. The team was accorded a warm welcome at the Allama Iqbal International Airport upon arrival by Prime Minister’s Coordinator  on Youth Programme Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan, hockey federation officials and a large number of fans.

Rana Mashhood speaking to media announced Rs1 million for each player of the national hockey team.

Earlier, Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab had also announced Rs100,000 for each member of the national team.

Meanwhile, the International Hockey Federation (FIH) has issued rankings of hockey teams.

After losing to Japan in the final of Azlan Shah Cup, Pakistan’s world ranking fell further. Green Shirts dropped from 15th to 16th position while Japan elevated from 16th to 15th position. Holland tops the world ranking with Belgium is at second and Australia third.
