IHC to decide Mohsin Naqvi’s fate as PCB chairman

05 March, 2024 12:53

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday accepted a plea challenging the appointment of Mohsin Naqvi as the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

Chief Justice Islamabad High Court Aamer Farooq has ordered to issue notice to Naqvi and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in this regard.

In the plea, the petitioner stated that The caretaker prime minister doesn’t have the authority to nominate chairman of the board as its patron-in-chief.

“Pakistan constitution clearly differentiates between an elected prime minister and a caretaker,” it said.

It must be noted that Naqvi was elected unopposed as the new chairman of the PCB last month.

The election, which confirmed Naqvi’s appointment for a period of three years, took place at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore.
