Imran Khan acquitted in multiple May 9 violence cases

The District and Sessions Court in Islamabad acquitted former Prime Minister Imran Khan of the charges in multiple May 9 violence cases registered at the Shahzad Town police station.

Judicial Magistrate Umar Shabbir announced the verdict in favour of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder citing insufficient evidence.

The cases were part of a series of legal challenges faced by the PTI founder. However, the prosecution failed to present substantial evidence, leading to the court’s decision to acquit.

On May 20, local courts in Islamabad had acquitted Imran Khan and other PTI leaders in two cases filed in the Kohsar and Karachi Company police stations for violation of Section 144 as well as holding the party’s ‘Azadi March’ on Islamabad.

Judicial Magistrate Shahzad Khan accepted the acquittal pleas of Imran Khan, Sheikh Rashid, Faisal Javed Khan, Ali Nawaz Awan, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Qasim Suri, Raja Khurram Nawaz and other suspects in the case of violation of Article 144, registered in the Kohsar police station.

Moreover, he also accepted acquittal pleas of PTI leaders including Imran Khan, Faisal Javed Khan, Ali Nawaz Awan, Saifullah Niazi, Zartaj Gul, Asad Umar in the same case.we
