In a first, transgender included in ANP’s cabinet

For the first time in Pakistan, a transgender has been included in the central cabinet of a political party.

An Awami National Party meeting related to intra-party elections held at Bacha Khan Center, where the cabinet was formed by consensus. Transgender Dr. Mehrub Moiz Awan was also included in the cabinet, who will serve as the secretary for transgender rights.

Dr. Mehrub completed his Masters in Public Health from the University of Washington and later obtained his MBBS degree from Khyber Medical University, Peshawar.

Dr. Mehrub is also currently serving as the director policy and gender at Gender Interactive Alliance. He has previously worked at the World Bank and various hospitals.

Dr. Mehrub has no brother while he has six sisters who are all doctors by profession.

Dr. Mehrub said that he had the support of his parents in every moment of his life and due to this support he achieved many successes.

He said that he is very hopeful and excited about getting the responsibilities in the Awami National Party and is trying to enhance his community’s representation in politics.

Dr. Mehrub said that the ANP is committed to equal rights and a progressive party, that’s why he chose the party to enter the political arena.
