IPU president meets President Alvi, FM and others during Islamabad visit today (Monday).

President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Gabriela Cuevas Barron call on President Dr Alvi at the Aiwan-e-Sadr.

She also met Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Information Minister Shibli Faraz.

Earlier, she had a meeting with chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjrani.

President Alvi expressed the hope that IPU would play its role in protecting the rights of the people of IIOJK (occupied Kashmir).

In the meeting, he said the Kashmiris were facing extreme misery.

He said India unleashed a reign of terror, terming it a clear violation of United Nations resolutions.

Gabriela Cuevas Barron, a Mexican politician for last 20 years, said her country wants to work with Pakistan for promoting closer ties in areas of mutual interest.

The President expressed the hope that the visit of the President IPU would strengthen parliamentary relations between the parliament of Pakistan and IPU’s member parliaments.

Senate Chairman Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani and Senator Mirza Muhammad Afridi attended the meeting.

Meanwhile, during meeting with Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, she exchanged views on a wide range of subjects.

She and the FM discussed issues related to inter-parliamentary cooperation, Covid-19 pandemic, Islamophobia, and regional peace and security.

The FM highlighted the centrality of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in Pakistan’s foreign policy.

He apprised Gabriela of the worsening human rights and humanitarian situation in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

Particularly, he spoke on Indian illegal and unilateral actions and year-long inhuman military siege, communication blackout, and egregious violations of human rights.

Qureshi urged the IPU to take steps to alleviate sufferings of the Kashmiri people and to promote the realization of their inalienable right to self-determination.
